Lunch in Yurukuchou

Lunch in the Foreign Correspondence Club is like stepping out of Tokyo, unlocking the door to a place that is inhabited only by those people you wish one day you might grow up to be. A place of colourful characters. A place where everyone has a story somewhere tucked away. Today I watched the ex-ambassador to Myanmar try to convince us that the press gives Burma a raw deal... the questions flew - and I felt safe to sit back and admire as a French journalist just back from Burma declared that the people he had spoken to were obviously not the same guys this ambassador was talking to. Watching journalists fulfilling their role, of holding people accountable for their views and actions, is beautiful.
